DC Landmark Reopens, Welcomed by Hundreds in the District

After being closed for more than 30 years, the Howard Theatre is officially back in business. The 102-year-old DC landmark, which closed in 1970, underwent a massive restoration throughout the past few years. The theatre boasts a historic performance roster, including music trailblazers such as Marvin Gaye, James Brown, Ella Fitzgerald and comedian Red Foxx.

Rapper Wale and local DC artist Tabi Bonney performed at the theatre on opening night. Comedienne Wanda Sykes and artist Yasiin Bey (Mos Def) are slated to headline events at the theatre on Thursday and Friday. For a schedule of events, click here.
